How to Best Prepare for Your Photoshoot
From your local Wilkesboro photographer (and mom!)

Hey y’all! It’s Macie here from NC Mountain Memories Photographer—and today I’m sharing my go-to tips to help you feel calm, confident, and camera-ready for your session. Whether you’re getting updated family portraits, couple photos, or a mini session in the mountains, these little steps go a long way!

1. Plan Outfits in Advance

Coordinating (not matching!) colors always photographs beautifully. Think soft neutrals, earth tones, and layers. Avoid busy patterns, logos, or super bright neon. Feel free to send me pics of your outfit choices—I'm always happy to help!

Bonus tip: Dress for the location! If we’re hiking to a mountaintop or wandering through a field, comfy shoes matter more than heels.

2. Give Yourself Plenty of Time

Don’t stress the day of—leave early, give yourself time to breathe, and arrive relaxed. Rushing leads to flustered energy, and you deserve to feel your best!

3. Bring Snacks and Water (Especially for the Littles)

As a mama myself, I know how quickly moods can shift when a kiddo gets hungry. A quick snack break can save the day—and keep those smiles coming!

4. Trust the Process

You don’t need to be a pro model. I’ll guide you with prompts, fun poses, and movement to help you feel natural and connected. The best photos come from just being YOU.

5. Embrace the Imperfection

Wind-blown hair, goofy giggles, muddy boots—those little “imperfections” often make the most meaningful memories. Lean into it. Let your love and laughter shine.

Still feeling nervous?
That’s totally normal! But know this: I’ve got you. Every session is about connection, comfort, and capturing your unique story. If you ever have questions leading up to your shoot, I’m just a message away.

Can’t wait to capture your mountain memories soon! 💛

With love,

Start With A Really Cool Title

Hey friends! I know prepping for a photoshoot can feel like a lot—what to wear, how to pose, will the kids cooperate, will I look awkward? (Spoiler: you won’t!) As a photographer and a mom, I totally get it. That’s why I’m sharing my top tips to help you show up stress-free and ready to shine.

1. Outfit Vibes Matter

Choose outfits that reflect you—natural tones, soft textures, and colors that complement each other without matching exactly. Earthy colors and cozy layers photograph beautifully in the NC mountains. Avoid anything with big logos or bright neon.

Not sure what works? Send me a pic of your outfit options—I love helping with this!

2. Show Up Early, Breathe Deep

The magic happens when you’re not rushing. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to settle in, shake off any nerves, and maybe even soak in a few deep breaths of that mountain air.

3. Pack the Essentials (Snacks Are Gold)

If you’ve got kids, you already know—snacks and water are non-negotiable. Bring something easy to nibble on between shots, and maybe a favorite toy or blanket if it helps your little one feel comfy.

4. Let Go of “Perfect”

The best photos aren’t posed to perfection—they’re the in-between moments. The giggles, the glances, the wind in your hair. Trust the process, relax into the moment, and let your connection shine.

5. Trust Your Photographer 😉

You don’t have to know how to pose or where to look. That’s what I’m here for! I’ll guide you every step of the way, keep things light and fun, and make sure your session feels like a memory in itself.

You’ve Got This.
Photoshoots should be fun, not stressful. With a little prep and a lot of heart, we’ll create something truly beautiful together.

Next, Add Words And Images

Image Idea: A wide shot of a family walking a dirt path at sunset with the mountains in the background. Natural, candid, and warm.

Intro Text:
Let’s be real—getting ready for a photoshoot can feel like a thing. But it doesn’t have to be! Whether we’re meeting in a grassy field, beside a blue ridge view, or somewhere right here in Wilkes County, the goal is always the same: to create a fun, relaxed experience that results in images you’ll love forever.

I’ve put together my best tips (and a few mom-approved hacks) to help you feel confident and totally camera-ready.

1. 🎨 Outfit Vibes Matter

🖼️ Image Idea: Flat lay of neutral-toned outfits laid out (maybe jeans, soft dresses, and cozy cardigans) on a blanket outdoors.

Choose pieces that feel like you—laid-back, cozy, and flattering. Neutrals, soft greens, warm rusts, and creamy whites photograph beautifully against mountain and meadow backdrops.

Avoid matching too closely—coordinate instead! Think “color cousins” not “twins.” Texture (like lace, linen, or knits) adds visual interest without being too bold.

💡 Pro tip: If in doubt, bring a backup option. I can help you choose on the spot!

2. ⏰ Arrive Early, Breathe Easy

🖼️ Image Idea: A quiet moment of a couple sitting on a blanket, looking out over a field while holding hands.

Running late = stress. Aim to arrive 10–15 minutes before your session starts. This gives you time to relax, fix hair, or sneak in a quick snack with the kids. And you’ll get a feel for the space before we start snapping photos!

This calm moment before the session often helps everyone feel more at ease.

3. 🍎 Bring the Essentials

🖼️ Image Idea: Close-up of a parent offering a small snack to a child with a blurred, beautiful background.

Snacks. Wipes. Water. Maybe a favorite toy or lovey. These are lifesavers—especially with little ones (and yes, sometimes grown-ups too!). A few goldfish crackers can totally turn a mood around mid-session.

Pack light but smart—you’ll thank yourself.

4. 🌬️ Embrace the Wild Moments

🖼️ Image Idea: A candid of a child laughing as the wind catches their hair or a couple twirling barefoot in the grass.

Perfection is overrated. Some of my favorite images come from windblown hair, dirty boots, or spontaneous piggyback rides. Those little “imperfect” moments are exactly what make your session feel real and unforgettable.

Don’t worry about the poses. Just be present. I’ll handle the rest.

5. 🤝 Trust the Girl With the Camera

🖼️ Image Idea: A behind-the-scenes shot of you (Macie) laughing with a client, camera in hand.

I’ve got your back. Whether it’s guiding you through a pose, helping your child laugh, or finding that magical patch of golden light—this is what I love doing. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the experience.

🌟 Ready to Make Some Magic?

Your photoshoot should feel like time well spent—laughing, playing, connecting with the people you love most. With a little prep and a lot of heart, we’ll create something beautiful together.

Got questions before your next session? I’m just a message away. Let’s make it easy and memorable—because your mountain memories matter.

With love,

Marketing & Design

Okay, your cool blog is done. Now all that’s left is to publish and get readers. Think of blogging as part of your marketing strategy – because it really is.

Blogs help people find you through search engines. But you can also share your blogs on social media platforms to get people ooh-ing and ahh-ing over your work on your website. The goal is to show them around the place, dazzle them with your work, and hopefully they’ll end up booking their own sessions – or signing up for updates! Sharing is easy. Just click “Share” and post to the social media of your choice. Done and done.

Our last notes are about design. Both for your overall blog layout and for each post.

  1. People are visual creatures... but you know that already. A beautiful blog will encourage people to stay & read more! Your blog comes with a bunch of layout options so you can create a gorgeous experience for your readers.

  2. If you write a longer article, try to break up the words with images peppered throughout. Photos make for a more enjoyable read!

  3. If you have extra widgets, you can easily embed them in the footer or sidebar of your blog. Putting in a subscription form, for instance, is a great idea to keep people hooked on reading your blog!

That’s about it! You now know everything you need to make a great blog for your business! Good luck, champ. I know you’ve got this. But if you ever have any questions, drop us a line, and we’ll be glad to help!

Happy blogging!

Xoxo,
